I periodically like to write about alternative wedding songs – new, independent artists, forgotten gems, lesser known cover songs, and quite a bit of Springsteen. If you’re an alternative bride and music aficionado and have suggestions, please e-mail me at natalie (at) nataliediener.com. I’m always looking for new music! Wonderful Tonight Eric Clapton, 1977 The original really has it all – Clapton’s guitar prowess, beautiful lyrics, and a tempo that anyone can dance to, even if you have two left feet. If you love this song, but would like an...

This past Sunday was the Lovesick Wedding Expo.  Tom and Jon from Hi-Society Entertainment promised a fun, bridal show extravaganza like no other, and boy, did they deliver!  Venue host, World Cafe Live, was full to the brim with alternative vendors, young upstart companies, unique ideas, beautiful displays, and - best of all - the raffle produced over $800 for the local non-profit Children Can Shape the Future. The theme for my little 4-foot space was "Recycled Music Thrift" - playing off the rock and roll location and the day's ecofriendly...

UPDATE: I have had the pleasure of seeing four couples down the aisle at the Horticulture Center.  Here you can see a beautiful video of this awesome venue in action (Courtesy of the brilliant CinemaCake Filmmakers), and here is a gorgeous wedding and the gorgeous photos taken by Nadine at Love Me Do Photography. Below is my posting after seeing the venue for the first time.  I think you would agree - it's pretty spectacularly pretty. I am so taken with this venue, I had to post the pictures I just...

This weekend I will be shaking hands and handing out swag at the Lovesick Wedding Expo at World Cafe Live. This alternative wedding Expo promises to be "for the cool at heart" and feature wedding vendors who are nontraditional, handmade, ecofriendly, gay friendly, and just plain friendly. I am thrilled to be a part of this event and can't wait to meet all the recently engaged Philadelphia brides and grooms. I know it's a super exciting time and I'd love to take some of the burden off their shoulders....

There have been more than a few flurries since Janice and Allen celebrated their commitment during a June heatwave, but there's no time like the present to post some photos and thanks. Thanks, of course, to Janice and Allen to inviting me to be their wedding planner.  It was a thrill watching Janice walk down the "aisle" (a hidden path along the pond) and seeing their first dance to Stevie Wonder's "For Once in My Life." [slideshare id=6305512&doc=janiceandallen-101222135653-phpapp02] Special thanks to Chrissy K for beautifully shooting this nontraditional, outdoor wedding and sharing the...

I'm periodically going to write about alternative wedding songs – new, independent artists, forgotten gems, lesser known cover songs, and quite a bit of Springsteen. If you’re an alternative bride and music aficionado and have suggestions, please e-mail me at natalie (at) nataliediener.com. I’m always looking for new music! Some songs are timeless… which means that they will be popular first dance songs until the end of time. You cannot deny the appeal of those romantic melodies and beautiful lyrics. If you are planning a unique wedding...

This past Saturday, June 12, 2010, two of the most beautiful people I know followed their path down the aisle.  Janice and Allen looked a.m.a.z.i.n.g. and happy and (from all reports) their vows blew everyone away (I was prepping the reception site during the ceremony - an unfortunate drawback to this career!) I was able to snag a few pics from lovely guest (and talented Marketing Director for the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe), Ms. Robin Barnes.  I can't wait until the photos come back to share the whole...

Planning a wedding is an extremely personal affair - the wedding should always be representative of the engaged couple. Which is why it's so awesome that Kim Pacini and the ladies of Unbridaled have created an alternative wedding brand that focuses on sustainable, hand crafted, and local bridal goods for the sustainable, hand crafted, locally-minded couples! If you get a chance, please join them on April 25th for the Unbridaled Style Expo and Sample Wedding Gown Sale at The Wardrobe Boutique (1822 Spring Garden St, 2nd Floor, Philadelphia). Event Includes: 10-12 vendors...

[caption id="attachment_39" align="alignright" width="198" caption="Let the music play"][/caption] iAM currently planning an "iPod wedding" - a wedding that will feature a portable mp3 player instead of a disc-jockeying, announcement-making, dancefloor-shaking Master of Ceremonies. Maybe you have an allergic reaction to the Chicken Dance, want an alternative music option, or simply looking to save a little money on your Big Day. An iPod wedding does have its benefits, but take a few tips before plugging in (and tuning out). 1) An iPod alone does not an iPod wedding make. You will still...
